About

I’m Daniel McPherson. I Help Individuals, Rehab Organizations, and Fitness Trainers.

Daniel McPherson is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, certified strength and conditioning specialist, certified tennis performance specialist, and PhD student in Biokinesiology at the University of Southern California. With a decade of experience spanning outpatient orthopedics, athletic performance, and rehabilitation science, Daniel brings a uniquely integrative approach to injury prevention and movement optimization.

A U.S. Army veteran and former fitness trainer, Daniel has worked with individuals across the spectrum—from elite athletes and post-operative patients to folks who sustained spinal cord injuries seeking sustainable performance. As a clinician scientist and research contributor in USC’s Clinical Biomechanics and Orthopedic Outcomes (COOR) Lab, his work focuses on neuromuscular profiling, rate of force development, social determinants of health, and guideline-based care.

Daniel partners with physical therapy clinics, fitness trainers, and performance professionals through his consulting to strengthen decision-making around movement assessment and program design. His mission is to bridge the gap between rehab and performance, empowering trainers, coaches, and clinicians to confidently serve individuals with a history of, or risk for, injury with the highest quality of research evidence supporting recommendations. Not only that, he wants to help blend these methods into your workflow to make your life easier.

Whether you’re an individual striving to prevent injury, a provider looking to build a continuum of care between fitness and rehabilitation, or an organization with the desire to enhance movement and evidence utilization skills, Daniel offers grounded, research-informed guidance with a commitment to excellence and collaboration.

Topics I Discuss

01.

Tennis Performance, Injury Prevention, and Rehab

Injuries are a common occurrence in active lifestyles, unfortunately. However, the majority of injuries are due to overuse. Overuse injuries can be prevented with the right pinpointed training regimen.

02.

Getting Strong & Staying Strong

Strength, or the ability to produce force through motion, is a critical component of physical activity. Building and maintaining strength is not always easy, but it can be simple. Life is better when you’re strong!

03.

Importance of
Movement

Movement occurs in the context of our beliefs, state of mind, environment, and situation. Assessing motion, force, energy, control, and contextual factors can provide valuable insights into individual training and rehabilitation decisions.

04.

Updated Evidence Integration

There is an abundance of research on exercise, manual therapy, movement, and other areas of health and wellness. Research articles help answer important questions, but they typically fail to guide how that evidence should be used. As a clinician-scientist, I am trained to break that barrier.
